Simply 2 different eras, Bruno was the king of the northeast during his heyday. Hulk was the king of the national expansion in his heyday.

Bruno was the biggest draw for two decades straight. Not even Hogan could do that.

I saw Bruno wrestle Moondog Mayne at the Boston Garden in 1973. I was 8 and still remember almost all of that night. All of the greats of the time were on the card. Andre, Chief Jay Strongbow. Pedro Morales, Killer Kowalski, Tony Garea.... But the guy we were looking forward to the most was Bruno. The fans would go nuts over him..much more than any other wrestler. Bruno the GOAT imo.

Bruno didn't have the country wide appeal. As Prichard tells it, he was dead in the water when he came to Houston. That's because the mixing of ethniciities wasn't nearly as prevalent back then. And that includes the Irish, Jewish people, Italians, etc. And the Italian population was very prevalent in the Northeast. Hogan was more 'monochromatic' in nature. He had big appeal in NYC, Boston, Philly, etc..but not quite as much as Bruno. But Hogan also had tremendous appeal in LA, Florida, Chicago, etc.

However without Bruno there's probably o Hogan. May have been too difficult for the WWWF to survive without somebody as over and selling out arenas like Bruno did.

Bruno was a huge draw in a small area, Hogan was a great draw in a huge area.

I seriously doubt it if you compare the era.likr him or hate him no one sold out arenas more then Hogan.

Damn Skippy ! There is no comparison. Look at the videos on YouTube. Those northeast arenas went nuts during a Bruno matches. Why do you think they had to bring Bruno out of retirement to wrestle Piper, Savage, Honky Tonk, Bob Orion etc. because fans would come to see Hogan once but his return matches were the shits. He wasn’t believable.

Mario, Not everyone on the planet knows Bruno Sammartino, every single human being and their dog knows The Hulkster

I saw Hogan and Bruno in their heydays, Hogan was much bigger than Bruno especially to the casual fan, I loved Bruno but there's not a chance he was a bigger draw so I would disagree. Maybe very early Hogan as a heel working against Andre and Tony Atlas in non-title bouts but that was a very small sampling here in NYC

Hulk Hogan is the Babe Ruth of Professional Wrestling who put the sport on the map worldwide. Pro Wrestling wouldn’t be what it is today, or has been without him.

Also their was cable tv, , internet, cell phone, etc in bruno's era, 60-85, but bruno had the largest cities too work in (nyc, boston, pittsboro, philly, dc, etc, no promoter had that case closed, with a large italian population, times changed fast when vince jr invaded every territory and put them out of business nuff said, bruno was of the best champs of that era but shared it with lou thetz, verge gagna, bockiwinkel, the funks, etc

Pro wrestling was its own kayfabe world in Sammartino's day. The mainstream media would not touch it. There was no network TV exposure, the matches got no coverage in respectable media. You had a local TV station carrying the weekly one-hour TV show and you had the wrestling magazines. It was in that world that Bruno Sammartino would sell out Madison Square Garden and the other major northeas sports arenas every month against a series of new and recurring heels.

Bruno was probably bigger in the Northeast. Hogan was by far bigger Worldwide though.
