I like how Thunderf00t uses the correct S.I. unit of energy: the chocolate bar.
Makes more sense than using the American unit of distance: the football field.

29:32 The thermal protection device actually fused closed, not open. Great demonstration video, gives a good visual of what happened.

My Dad worked on all of the Apollo missions. Including 13 and the subsequent investigation of what happened. The Ox tanks were failing at the weld. His crew was tasked with pumping the tanks to the point they popped. They spent 2 weeks popping tanks out in Rancho Cordova at McDonald Douglas. The final conclusion it was the welding process. TIG welding was very new back in 1963. I even have a book that shows the testing they did and how the tanks split in half every time.

I sincerely did enjoy watching it, Thunderf00t. Could've watched another hour of this easily. Thanks for the content

I can't believe how chill the people were in the pod. When they find out that they are in trouble they just casually say: "It looks grim", other guy: "Yes it does".

"-Hey, we've made a dent it that critically fragile oxygen tank. Shall we report?
-nah, it's just barely scratched"

"-hey, this thing doesn't wan't to get emptied. Shall we report?
-nah, just overpressure it, it surely isn't terrible"

"hey that damn thing STILL doesnt' work and we're T- few hours. Shall we report?
-naaaah jut cook the damn thing with a half kilowatt heater i'm sure it will be fine".

Just how such chain of negligence could have happened?

Please continue to make more scientific videos! I find the level of detail in your content is what makes it stand out.

How fortunate that this story is going to push this channel over the 1 million subscriber mark. ✌️😁

I guess the bottom of the heating coil being cooler in the liquid would also lower it's electrical resistance, pushing more of the heating power to the top and not helping the situation.

Liquid gases are a mess. I can tell. We had beans for dinner yesterday.

I love TF's takedowns of idiots and scammers, which always make me laugh, but the science stuff, and these Apollo videos in particular leave me so focused on my screen that it's like I have lost time. Where did that half an hour go? I wish I had teachers half as interesting when I was in school!

This entire deep dive into what happened on the Apollo has been fantastic. Thanks, Professor.

Isaac Asimov wrote a murder mystery "A Whiff of Death" about the dangers of pressurized Oxygen. It woke me up. I never looked at an Oxygen tank the same again. :)

Imagine something like this happen on a flying dust bin going to mars.

The short seller would be happy.
