ROYAL CARIBBEAN CEO'S SPEECH SENDS SHOCKWAVES THOUGH THE INDUSTRY.
When Royal caribbean's CEO is making a speech at the launch of it's newest ship the Utopia of the Seas you would expect all the news to be about this ship. However some of the things he said are getting much more attention and could be a game changer for the cruise company. One country just did away with tourist visa's for cruisers. NCL has a new home port in the U.S..

I’m actually excited about smaller ships! I’m 66, and all of those amenity “toys” are meaningless to me. I want relaxation, some fun activities and great food.

The hook is the fact that they’re making smaller ships. A lot of people don’t care for the mega-ships. A quieter, more intimate cruise sounds just like what the doctor ordered.

Please, smaller ships, no amusement parks, simple cruising, more adult orientated. Loyal to Royal!

I would like to see a return to the elegant food service with a mid night buffet. They were so beautiful the ice carvings the food art. As a past culinary worker, I know the work that goes into it as well as the artistry. Would love to see that again.

Yes!!! Smaller ships and better food. Don't need all those bells and whistles, rock climbing roller coasters. I go to relax and have fun and have good food. More single cabins with a reasonable price

I'd like to see more cabins for solo cruisers, i.e. ME! And I don't need all the bells & whistles - go carts, huge water slides, etc.

Between mega and “normal” sized ships I prefer the smaller ships
Would love to see modern smaller class ships

I like Princess style medium ships!! Thanks Don!

This had to happen. Mid size, with about 80% current amenities is the sweet spot for the 40 to 60 crowd who prefer a more relaxed setting and more traditional venues and events, with more focus on better dining and drink.

Best news I've heard in a long time, that they are actually going to start building smaller ships! Not only will it be nicer than those floating amusement parks, but will be able to bring back real cruising which is more about ports of calls than who has the biggest water slide. Long time a ago I did a first of the season sailing on the NCL Crown out of Santiago Chili, being too early to do the passage to get to Brazil, we did a 14 day to Ushuaia, Argentina stopping at several ports that were normally by passed. It was great!! Locals were happy to have the ship dock there and rolled out the red carpet for us. Best part, no blasted tourist shops, no diamonds international and such.

Their obsession with larger and larger ships now has the anti-tourism backlash all around the world. It's amazing the executives never had the foresight and only looked at their profit margins.

A lot places are trying restrict the number of ships or people each day in port. So smaller ships might allow for more ports also.

Simple cruise ship. Like the good old days. Not all those things like roller coasters or flying in mid air. 🤔 safe sailing Don. I so enjoy your blog😅

I think smaller ships would definitely be huge hit!! With some great ports and excursions, excellent food and service, and some good entertainment, I'd certainly be a happy camper on one!

Simple classic and classy! We don’t need more fun park city ships!

Just simple cruising for me. I just need a place to take long walks, nice quiet nooks and places to sit and reflect. A nice little area to enjoy my morning coffee, a place to have a good lunch and a nice dinner experience. Maybe a nice show and comfortable stateroom! I like having a chapel, and a library. I'm not into the bars, not into nightlife except to sometimes get up in the middle of the night and go for a long walk on the outside decks! I like seeing the moonlight shine across the vast waters and the beautiful sunrise that one can catch from a outside deck! A place on the bow to hang out and relax like the Voyager class. My favorite thing to do is to spend time on the bow.

Thank you... The wife and I are loyal RC cruisers and we have no desire too, or will go on these huge ships. Way too many people, too much noise, and too many kids.

I like the smaller ships. Much more personal.

What I would like to see: a balcony with a great open glass view, two very comfortable lounge chairs and premier entertainment--oh yes, and great food.😎🤟🎊🎉
