The FX65 is very likely what was actually used on the original recording, based on John’s own words from interviews at that time, as well as the sound of it. The CE-1 is definitely what he’s been using live for a long time, but the album tone on UTB doesn’t sound quite like a CE-1.

Nice video. To me, the best is the FX65. It sounds warmer, and it is the most faithful to the song.

DOD FX65 with Filips gear (final part) is the winner for me

The main guitar signal on BSSM (including UTB outro) was split with the chorus pedal to a marshall bass head and a guitar head. The sound from both amps was then panned hard left and right in the stereo mix. If you check out the Guitar Hero isolated guitar tracks you'll notice that the chorus effect is on BOTH channels, which means that it must have been the FX65 on the whole record, which outputs two wet signals, while the CE-1 outputs one dry and one wet signal. Case closed.

Really good demo!! FX67 and CE-1 are the best. Triungulo sounds off… Im glad I didnt buy it and got CE-1 instead and I absolutely love it.

Interesting comparison. Thank you. I'm no expert of the Frusciante authentic sound from this song, but in my opinion BOSS CE-1 is head and shoulders above everything else. DOD FX67 is also not bad, but that sound is too massive and fat.

I think the rosewood fretboard helps the pedals to sound warmer and darker which I like
