Building a bridge or a tunnel across the Bering Strait from Russia to USA has been in the talks for years. With Russia and China now considering the megaproject, it may soon become a reality. If built, it would be a long bridge crossing the ocean or an underwater highway tunnel, along with an underwater railway. Join us today as we explore this megaproject and all its incredible details.

Based on the history between the 2 countries, do you really think that this bridge is a "thing"? No. It is not.

For this project to get any major traction (excluding the history between Russia and USA), the electric and rail systems on both sides will need a major overhaul and restructuring. In addition, this would provide ample opportunity for building a massive mass transit project (mainly by rail) between the counties as well as building a web of transit in connecting major and relevant cities along the way.

That's kind of like my plan to build a pipeline from Jack Daniels Distillery to my house.

Imagine how long it would take to drive from Miami to Cape Town. Or even worse the lowest part of Chile in South America to Cape Town. It’s still exciting to think about tho.

I find it amazing that this many countries are on board to help build this project...🤝 👍

That looks like an Alaska reconquest plan

That is the most ridiculous idea given the tensions we have with Russia a nice way to allow them to invade Alaska

Ask Ukraine how the bridge to Crimea worked out for them. Considering Russia believes Alaska should never have been sold to the US, it sure would give Russia an easy way to get there to take it back. I'm not sure how China is in the mix. Just sayin'.

Alaska would have to build a highway to meet their bridge, most people don’t realize that most Alaskan cities are only accessible by air or water (summer months)

A global super highway system would be nuts

I'd definitely love if this happened. It seems unlikely, based on geopolitics and just the way that infrastructure mega-projects often seem to go... but the idea of a high-speed rail linking the entire west coast, and/or one going across Canada, has been something I've wanted to see for a while now. If it were to happen along with the rest of this project, that would be amazing.

My one gripe with the way the route map was set up though, is that it should come down to Vancouver and then go from Vancouver to Calgary, and also split south to Seattle/Portland/LA/etc. Instead of going from Juneau to Calgary.

I wish I would be alive to see this project completed.

The new cities that develop in that region would be cool see. Interesting diversity.

Considering how rough the North Pacific seas are that would be one tall bridge that would also problem get shut down for a good chunk of the year as well. Aside from government tensions between the two countries there are still family ties between both native Alaskans and the Russians on that eastern coast line of the country.

What happens if your car or truck to haul commodities were to break down? Imagine this bridge during the winter?! So many questions

Love this - Sure, it wouldn't work as a passenger line, since the Bering strait is too far away from 99% of the Russian & American populations. But as a Freight line - it's perfect !!

Well, Russia would have been able to do that if they still had Alaska.

For this to happen, Russia needs to build roads and railroads and other infrastructure towards the bridge from their side, then USA and Canada need to build from this side infrastructure. Once infrastructure is in place, we can put an effort to build the bridge.
