How long did it take me to learn Spanish? How long will it take you to learn Spanish? These are extremely common questions about language learning that I receive all of the time, especially from beginner Spanish learners. Today we'll tackle the issue so that you'll know what to expect as you begin to learn the language.

I just signed up for the master class. I've always wanted to speak Spanish fluently, but even though I did it at university I still wasn't good at it. I'm so happy I found your channel...let's see where I'll be in 2022.

You made some valid points about foreign languages. I do this as a hobby. I believe the longer you stay with foreign languages, the better. You are right about consistency. All the YouTubers I know have been learning single foreign languages for 10 years or more. I have been at it awhile myself; I can speak on this.

You made a point that is very important. My question is, how does one know that he or she can speak spanish? But what is the definition of speaking spanish? I say if you can speak the spanish language which means you understand all or most the rules, conjugations, subjunctives, commands, thoughts, situations, etc.

There are so many people on YouTube with great videos and there are some believing that they are speaking the spanish language and speaking a lot of it totally wrong.

So for someone to know how long, just continue to study and talk, and know what you are saying is correct and you will continue to grow.

Good Stuff!

I’m thinking about getting back into learning the language and I’m not sure where to start. I took Spanish for basically for 8 years in school and I had a pretty good grasp on it speaking and understanding it. It’s been 4 or 5 years since then and I feel like I’ve lost it but I’ll catch certain things in understanding conversation 😭

Great content Erica.. The question i have is, when looking for a Spanish teacher, is it better to find someone that had to learn the language verses a teacher that is native to the Spanish language?

Make sense . Everyone have a different way to remember words . All true

I forgot, can you speak in different tenses besides the present tense .

Is your vocabulary of verbs over 150. These are the things that tell if you can speak the language in a meaningful way.

I've been studying just over a year, and I don't feel anywhere close to conversational. I am pretty happy with my progress in comprehension, though.

Hi Ms. Ray
I did not see the link at the bottom for the MasterClass.
Thank you for the message in this video. I'm frustrated. I have been taking 1 level Spanish and doing self teaching since 2007. I can understand what I hear but am not able to conversate. What throws me is the " El "o" and "La" 'a' at the end is not always consistent. Some El words have an "a" at the end. Then the personal roadblocks pop up. I can do well for 2 weeks then some butthole on my job does something that upsets and redirects my focus. I don't have a speaking partner either. Puzzles me bc I spoke fluent German as a child in Germany ( military brat).
Please advise and help!

Hello, I am leaving this comment before I watch till the end of the video, but I wonder if anyone really knows the answer to this question, because it isn't about how many months or days(because we aren't learning 24/7) but rather about hours and minutes spent learning the language (s) and even minutes and hours aren't created equal, so it's an impossible question to answer IMO, kinda like the common saying "how long is a piece of string?"
