How Cederroth's buffered Eye Wash works

The pH value of the eye is neutral. If alkalis or acids get into the eyes, the pH value changes radically, and it only takes a few seconds to cause a corrosive injury.

Cederroth's eye wash is borate buffered. A buffer is a kind of shock absorber that can withstand changes in pH by adding a strong acid or base.
By using a buffered eye wash the natural pH value of the eye is restored more quickly and effectively than with normal sodium chloride solution.
