Flinging ourselves back in time to the 90s when these books came out - can they stand up to scrutiny 30 years on?

The fourth book was actually written first, which is why it has a slightly different tone than the others and doesn't follow the main characters from the first three books. The other three were then written to fill in the backstory and properly build the world. Such a fun series! One of my most favorite from my early teen years that I read multiple times and am now revisiting! Loved this video and am so glad to see these stories getting a YouTube spotlight! I must say, though, that I prefer the earlier covers over the newer ones in this video. The 4th book was written in the mid-80s, I believe, and then the other three were written and published in the late 80s/early 90s. Those paperback covers from Point Fantasy are pure nostalgia for me, though each of the subsequent cover designs for republication have their own appeal. <3

I audibly gasped when I saw this notification!! I never hear people talk about this series, it's a comfort series of mine.
I do need to read them again myself.

I read these books in middle school. I actually read the fourth book first on accident, so I learned everything with the main character. The other three then became a backstory for the fourth book and I enjoyed that.

I found a hardcover bindup of this series a few years ago and I've been meaning to read them ever since, but I prefer to read only one series with dragons at a time (to spread the fun as much as I can) so I have yet to pick them up. Glad of the comparison with A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking, which I adore with a burning passion.

Loved these as a young person in the 90s 😅
Do check out her Sorcery and Cecelia series if you want the most gentle fluff books

Can you split the series up, i.e. gift two to one granddaughter and the other two to another granddaughter the same age, and then they exchange them because they're best friends, or do they need to be read in chronological order?
