A look around the historic National Trust Lacock Abbey in Wiltshire, on the edges of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding National Beauty.

This former 13th-century nunnery, was sold of after the 'Dissolution of the monasteries' (1536-1541), and turned into a private country home and significantly altering the fabric of the building; fortunately, the cloisters were left pretty much intact.

We explore the inside of Lacock Abbey, acknowledged as the birthplace of British photography, with the world's first negative produced from an image from the Oriel window in the South Gallery. Our visit will take us in through the Great Hall, onto the Brown Gallery, Stone Gallery and on to the Blue Parlour, laid out as it may have been for Henry Fox Talbot, that pioneer of photography. The walk along the South Gallery, past the Oriel window. leads us to the Dining room, before returning to the Great Hall.

Stepping outside, we wander around the grounds until we reach the entrance to the cloisters, part of the original abbey, with its Warming Room, the Charter House and Sacristy. This has served as a set in the Harry Potter moves, along with a host of other productions for both the silver screen and TV.

Our journey then leads onto the Abbey Courtyard before heading onto the Botanic Garden.

Hello my friends, and, once again, a wonderful, interesting and informative video tour of this remarkable building. My friend and fellow medieval historian, sadly since passed away, knew the history of the abbey intimately, but was, as I recall dismissive of the ' gothic ' additions - but they have also now become part of the abbey history !!!!
I hope you will agree, the more original aspects of the abbey, especially the cloisters are so much more appealing, and indeed, satisfying to spend some time in :)
Very well filmed, high quality as always. May I ask, do you use a dedicated camera for these tours. I only ask, as I have been finding that those who are using 4k ( cell phone cameras I think ) are less precise, with a much lower screen resolution, which I tend to find hard on the eyes after a while :(
Anyway, splendid and beautiful, and my sincere thanks for all your efforts - well done.
