About the gatekeeping, It's interesting, I hear you Gene. But I don't see how it would be a problem that for small DJ's, I mean the crowd really doesn't care about it and if you feel good playing a track that you've heard somewhere else than your own find, do it. Playing a track which was already played by another DJ is not copying his style, it all depends how you play it, in what context...
How many DJ's I have seen playing some other DJ's tracks... Binh, Del Garda, Quest, Cap, Christian AB.... They all do it. And there should be nothing wrong with that I think ! They still have their own style.
It's great to have originality. But that does not mean you have to play only unknown trax, blinds.. It's about taste. I mean it's literally limiting your DJ set to your digging skills while it could be much more. Also people forget about tracks. You play a track that was famous 10 years ago, it's not anymore and everyone will be surprised. To me it's good to do both, some personal diggings and sometimes play things you heard somewhere else.
In the end it's just a way of seeing things and I respect it.

Cheers fellow music lovers :)

As if he has never heard a tune from someone elses DJ set and played it. Gene is a good DJ and very underrated but hes talking nonsense with that one

Lol go check his production course. Dude rips stems from tracks he like arranges them how he wants then remakes the beat with his own sounds. That’s copying. Maybe he think it’s a good way to learn.. I don’t disagree but yeah..
