Honestly, if it's not an Nvidia GPU you got, and if it is a 64-bit machine, then you're very likely to be able to use a Linux distribution on it, however if it is 32 but I recommend sticking with Windows 7 and not going further, I don't expect you'll be playing games on an older operating system I don't even expect you to connect to the internet as connecting it to the internet can put your PC at risk, the best option whenever comes to connectivity would be either connecting it to a secluded offline network connection with all of your out of support devices or simply just transferring files to and from it via USB, please note that anything that has online activation you should shun from your life as it would make activating Windows programs a living hell offline.

With tweaks the GTX 980ti works too but probably overkill for what you would play on a XP System.

The i7-3770K is not the fastest, that would go to the i7-4960X. Since despite the 4 at the start, they are both still part of Ivy Bridge-E. Thus, making that the fastest CPU for Windows XP. It also allows you to go up to 128GB of RAM at DDR3-2800mhz (XMP/OC) speeds on the higher end X79 mobos

Modern games sure but older games is a different story i'd say its even too much for xp and the games for xp
