Tim Cook's pause after saying "iPad Mini" was such a tease. I actually really love the new Apple Pencil features and I'm bummed that they didn't/couldn't make the Apple Pencil Pro backwards compatible in any way. That being said, I'm excited for when the time comes for me to finally move on from my M1 iPad Air - even if that is still years from now!

I’m iPad all day. Love the new design. Macs have their place and always will. However as a windows users since the 2000’s the touchscreen experience for typing, piano, calligraphy, and learning to code throughout the app store app is so refreshing.

I have looked forward to the new oled screen for years. I had a 2018 iPad Pro 12.9" that I used more than any product I've ever had. But a few weeks ago, the display stopped working. I tried hard resetting, etc...nothing worked. It's dead. The backlight still works, just no display. I accidentally bent it a few times over the years by stuffing it into an overstuffed bag. I straightened it and it continued to work fine for years. I decided to wait until the iPad event to order a new one, but once I saw how thin the new 13" is, I decided to just get the 13" air because If I managed to bend the 2018 pro, the new 5.1 mm pro would be even more likely to bend. Gutted, but I hope the Air will not leave me disappointed. I have a MacBook Pro for anything serious anyway. My iPad was basically a content consumption device.

▫️Apple removed the 2nd rear camera
🔸Apple removed 1 studio microphone
🔹Apple Pencil 2 won’t work with it
🔻Existing Magic Keyboard won’t work with it
🔺The M4 chip in the 256 and 512 GB models is a binned whip with lower GPU and performance cores than getting an 1T or 2T model which has the fully unlocked M4 chip.

Great video, but this wasn't Apple's first UK event. They used to close off Regent St, when it had the cinema/big screen upstairs, and they did a fair few launch events there, think they did a few at Covent Garden as well when that was new. It was the first at their new HQ though.

If the Pro is meant for graphic designers though I can see the Apple Pencil Pro features as being really nice upgrades, yet the Air is not the Pro and isn’t intended for graphic designers and artists, so the lack of support for the second gen pencil on the Air is pretty poor. Apparently it’s to do with moving the camera to the side, but this is a pretty lame excuse from Apple imo

Good news on the iPad Air: £70 cheaper, twice the storage, and the upgraded processor. I'm a bit upset that my existing Apple Pencil Gen 2 won't work with it, but I can live with that. Also sad that the Smart Keyboard Folio is no longer available, but it looks as if the existing/previous Smart Keyboard Folios will work on the new iPad Air - the Smart Connector buttons appear to be in the same place on the new iPad Air. So I think this is the iPad for me - my use-case is primarily content consumption. I don't need an iPad pro - I have a 14" MacBook pro for content creation.

It’s about time Apple got with the times and started using OLED screens. The one feature I really want is a digital clock built into iPad OS. I have no idea why that hasn’t been included yet.
