I love examples like this that give you a shorthanded way to examine someones work. If they're too lazy to mix the mud, what else are they too lazy to do?

I'd venture to guess most of the bubbles aren't gone, in fact there are probably MORE! But they're tiny, uniform, and doesn't change the fact that this is good advice and clearly works.

1 box of lite compound with a coffee cup of water, mixed up as shown makes for very workable mud.

I find it much easier to use a mud pan and taping knife, but I do notice that a hawk and trowel forces me to work a little faster.

Why use prepackaged mud instead of dry? I've been using dry, it seems to set better with less cracking

We used to add a tiny tiny bit of water with our top coat mud and then mix it with the drill, anx it used to come out perfect pretty much, there was no bubbles
