In the official music video for "Crack A Bottle, Run A Bath," Shayfer moves from the gothic Tim Burton, David Lynch dream scape of the "Mercy Down" video to a surreal love dream that more closely resembles a Wes Anderson romp. Certainly this track won't be found on a list of top wedding songs, but it is quite honest in it's description of how love needs a sense of humor, forgiveness and a willingness to let go to survive infidelity or betrayal. This clown isn't the first to ask "Why so serious?" and he certainly won't be the last. This ain't no Ed Sheeran love song.

"On occasion we just need to laugh at ourselves, or stress a little less about the big things in life. Love is no different. It’s a powerful emotion, but we should also be able to have a little fun with it. Shayfer James had a lot of fun with it on his recent single “Crack A Bottle, Run A Bath.” - Substream Magazine

You are a criminally underrated musician for the talent you have displayed for many years. Counterfeit Arcade is a flawless album and I’m glad you are still making excellent music. Keep up the good work. Listening from Atlanta!

The amount of times that I have come to this song, and so many other Shayfer James songs, when getting ready to play a character, is outstanding.

The lyrics (sorry for any mistakes)

It’s never just a letter if it follows her from Paris
It isn’t just a phone call if it finds him in a booth
A lover may be clever but that doesn’t mean they’re honest
Don’t offer me philosophy, I come here for the truth

So crack a bottle, run a bath
We’ve got some trouble to speak off
We’ll have a good cry and after that
These are the things we should do, love

It’s never just a whisper if it meets her by a boat house
It isn’t just a whisky if it keeps him from the train
A lover may be wonderful but everybody is broken
The trick is sticking with the one who’s privy to your pain

So crack a bottle, run a bath
We’ve got some trouble to speak off
We’ll have a good cry and after that
These are the things we should do love
We’ll have a good fuck and a good laugh
Maybe dinner at midnight
Crack a bottle, run a bath
We’ve got some trouble to speak off

Crack a bottle, run a bath
We’ve got some trouble to speak off
We’ll have a good cry and after that
These are the things we should do love
We’ll have a good fuck and a good laugh
Maybe dinner at midnight

Crack a bottle, run a bath
We’ve got some trouble to speak off

Well, crack a bottle, run a bath
We’ve got some trouble to speak off
We’ll have a good cry and after that
These are the things we should do love
We’ll have a good fuck and a good laugh
Maybe dinner at midnight

Crack a bottle, run a bath
We’ve got some trouble to speak off

Crack a bottle, run a bath
We’ve got some trouble to speak off
We’ll have a good cry and after that
These are the things we should do love
We’ll have a good fuck and a good laugh
Maybe dinner at midnight

Crack a bottle, run a bath
These are the things we should do, love.

I don't think I've mentioned this before in your comments, but this song along with "Mercy Down" and "Boots Worn Through" helped me plot out a film I wrote the first thirty pages of for a class. It's a murder mystery, and I wouldn't have had the thought to write it if it wasn't for this song in particular. When I listened to it, I had a lucid vision of a montage in which the detective finds out her friend's wife is cheating on her, ending with a long shot of the entire sort of conspiracy board setup with the evidence laid out, every avenue explored, like it was the last conclusion she wanted to come to.

Oh, how the full breadth of this song and its video sweep me away. Every beautiful shot, every cut to a longing, soulful glance or a bitter grin, every stumble and every forgiving smirk. Many of the highest paid actors in the world today are but cardboard cut-outs compared to Shayfer James on screen, expressing the full range of human emotion that swirls around the maddening whirlwind of love. Sorrow, regret, elation, satisfaction... How could anyone watch and not feel empathy with the man, to share his smiles, to shed tears to match his own... This is what it means to be human. Pain, and joy, and each of your feelings granted value by the greater context of your entire life.

Thank you, thank you a thousand times Shayfer James, you and everyone who helped you make this. Your friends who held the camera and played the violas, what you've made here moves me. The purpose of any art is to evoke emotion, and please take it to heart when I confess that what you made was not just a fellow in clown makeup drinking wine beneath the highway. This is art, and to some of us it's more valuable than gold.

Shayfer, you're definitely are a musician I'll never forget, you're so... You, it's a breath of fresh air, especially in a sea of non-unique dreams and Hope's, not assuming you're dreams and hopes are different, but it's almost as if you don't use them to guide you, which is a nice feeling, I can relate, thank you for Another wonderful work. I look forward to listening to the rest.

I found you through being a Will Wood fan, seeing that you toured with him, and in the last couple days I've been listening to your music all the time. It's so fucking good!!!! And this song is definitely one of my favorites so far, I've been listening to it on loop this last hour. It slaps absolute balls and the video is just as amazing <3

Your music has LITERALLY helped me meet my sig. other and we've been together for about a year now because we bonded over your songs together on calls and rambled abt them for hours. Your music is unique in it's own way and we love it!! Never stop making music, because we adore it so much!

This entire comment section is wholesome as hell. I mean, you definitely deserve it, especially since you're taking the time to respond to everyone.

Also this song is fantastic and probably in the top 100 of my favourite songs (along with a few of your others).

During a bad time in my relationship, I listened to this song to cope. Now I listen to it to celebrate the good times, and it works just as well. 🎉❤
