I've got gout. So, it has been almost this guy's lifetime + since I've been able to eat oysters. It doesn't mean that I don't love them. In 1966 my dad, grandfather, and I picked oysters out of Mobile Bay. It was was 11/24/1966, my birthday and Thanksgiving Day. We had and awesome harvest and they were the best oysters of my life. My grandmother made oyster dressing for the Thanksgiving feast and we ate raw oysters for appetizers. In 1984, I lived in Brandon Fla. There was a local honky tonk called Frenchy's that served Mobile Bay oysters. They were the hugest oysters that I'd ever seen. The ones from my youth, I don't recall being so big. I like mine on saltine crackers. You had to cut them in half to put it on a cracker. I'll admit that I'm not sure if I've had a Chesapeake Bay oyster but damn, I'd give anything to go back to my youth and eat Mobile Bay oysters and not be in screaming agony.

I have had some huge wild Chesapeake Bay oysters and they were the best tasting oysters of my life regardless of the origin.

Wasn't a huge fan of Oysters till I had them at Smith & Wollensky Steakhouse in Boston. Always had them with the regular cocktail sauce. Theirs was a Mignonette. Changed everything for me regarding them little suckers. I have even had an oyster party with a friend. 50 of them and we could have eaten more. Much more.

I hate oysters, but I love this channel so much every few months I’ll go out and try them again like “maybe today’s the day!” Lol. Not yet, but I’ll try again soon.

You should try Aphrodite Oysters from here in Sprucehead, Maine. My friend Krista harvests them herself

I’ve never understood why people rate certain things like fries due to salt level. Put your own damn salt on it, , , , you’re not the only person on the planet that has personal preferences.

You didn't mention one of the main differences between wild and farm raised oysters. Wild are diploid and farm raised are triploid. Triploid are sterile, grow faster and are edible during the summer months when wild oysters are spawning and the meat loses size and flavor. You sure you had wild ones? My buddy farms a thousand for family consumption each year in the lower Chesapeake but sometimes we harvest wild ones, we find absolutely giant 6" oysters all along his creek.

My aunt farms oysters and clams off of Wallops Island. Though it’s a long shot, it still tickles me that you might have eaten an oyster she farmed.

Got a question? So my husband and I ordered some oyster to eat raw. When we shucked them some of them had baby crabs 🦀 in them and it freaked us out. IS that normal, ok to eat and what do you do when you find them in your oyster? Also we like to eat our oyster with salt pepper and lemon juice. Yummiest.
