No true Hip Hop Head stranded on an island with the option to choose only one rapper’s complete catalog to listen to for the rest of his or her life would choose Eminem’s catalog over Nas, Jay-Z, 2Pac’, Rakim, KRS-One, Scarface’s, or Black Thought’s catalog. Being lyrical isn’t the only measure by which we determine who is the GOAT. People actually have to feel and be able to relate to your music. Even though Em is technically skilled on the mic, what does he really rap about that’s of substance? It’s not just about “rapping the best”. There are reggae artists that can sing better than Bob Marley, but being the GOAT of reggae isn’t just about who can sing the best. It has to do more with what you sing about and your impact on people. When you consider these factors, Eminem is a very long way from being the GOAT of Hip Hop music.
