Are you a singer? Have you got a microphone that is sitting around waiting for you to pick up and sing into? Pity the fool who thinks every vocal line you've ever heard was done in one single take. We'll use the UR22mkII Recording Pack to demonstrate how easy it is to pick a microphone up and record a huge vocal track in Cubase. We'll show you every trick in the book including vocal doubling, mixing and using reverb, compression, delay and distortion (yep... we said distortion) to take a simple vocal track and propel it out into the vocal stratosphere. We'll be going back to the vocal recording 101. How to plug your mic in, set up your software and show you different techniques to capture different takes. Then we'll show you how easy it is to listen, edit and combine to all the takes you have done. In the previous videos we quickly created some music. Now it's time to turn your creation into a proper track.

We hope you find this video entertaining and useful. If you like what you see, please leave a comment and tell us what you think. Thank you.

For a while, researching the best DAW, and I pick the Cubase pro; and after watching the video how to approach recording vocal. I am very confident Cubase is the one. It is far greater than all the DAWs I owned.

Using side chaining by duplicating a vocal track and using it to control the vocal effect can be very effective and a lot less tedious than drawing it manually. But that's the great thing about Cubase, there are so many ways you can approach something.

Great vid! This was really helpful as a new Cubase user. Nice to know I can do so much right away without getting new "better" plugins.

As a singer this is the lesson I am most interested in. It is too short. Is there a longer primer on how to do all those things you showed us step by step?

I think the secret is to buy some alternative reverb plugins. This was a pretty helpful video though. Thanks

You say we have to set the vocal track as a mono track as 'a microphone is only 1 channel', however what if you want to use something like Stereo Delay where the delays bounce from left to right? You would surely need to set your vocal track as a stereo track to get Stereo Delay to work as an Insert. If you make the track mono, it will not work unless you put the stereo delay as a Send effect.

It is amazing what we can do with just the limited or Ai version of the software!

i wish i could use my UR-44 as the input, and the TV (which is my monitor and uses surround sound speakers) as the output.. I'm having some audio difficulties with Cubase Artist 10.5.. The program does not recognize my TV (NVIDIA sound) as an output option. However, it does recognize the steinberg UR-44 as an input and output.. The problem is that I don't want to buy studio monitors to plug into the interface because i have a perfectly good surround sound system that i'd like to use as my studio monitors. Please help!

I am not camfortable recording because I can't hear my own voice in the headset while recording so I have a hard time adjusting my voice. Can this be fixed? I see everyone recording with the headset fully on so I guess they hear their own voice?
I always had to put the headset slightly off to hear my voice but then the beat reach the microphone.

Nicely done. Who is Becky? She has a very nice voice, interesting to see how you sculpted her song performance into an actual production with "big sound" multi track recording, harmonies and all that.
My application is a bit different, mostly experimental synth tracks combined with "organic" instruments from the real world, some of which are on mic.

Why don’t you use a pop filter for vocals?
