It's great that we finally have a less expensive alternative to the Dyson... I just couldn't get myself to spend over $500 for a hair tool. Thanks for the review. I found it very informative.

FyI. If you choose to purchase the Shark, don't purchase from their website. If you decide to return it, it will cost you shipping and handling plus a service fee. Better to purchase it from an actual store just in case.

I can’t justify the price of the Dyson but seeing shark come out with a comparable product is so tempting! Thanks for the thorough review!!

Thank you Abbey! This is exactly the kind of review I was looking for. I wanted nit picky and details and the pros and cons! Your reviews are one of the few left on YouTube I trust! ❤

I purchased the Shark Flexstyler about 3 weeks ago and really enjoy it. I had the revlon One Step before and found that it was definitely damaging to my hair. The Flexstyle is not even close to being that damaging, in my opinion. I do not use it on the hottest setting though. I use the lowest and medium heat only. 😊
Thanks for the review/comparison!!

Such a good breakdown. Thank you! I went with the dyson mainly because it’s less damaging, and it’s blown me away! I’ll never use a traditional blow dryer or curler again, it’s truly magical.

Thank you Abby! I can't justify the price of the Dyson and honestly the Shark is out of my budget as well. However I love my Revlon 1 step Plus (bought after Xmas on clearance for $25!). I see it get alot of bad reviews based on heat, but I use the low and cool settings and get fabulous results on my course waves and my daughter fine curls. I think if we blame heat damage on hot tools with lower heat settings.... Then its not really the tool it's the user. The Shark and the Dyson blow dryers both get hot enough to cause damage I hear, but both also have lower heat settings if one chooses to use them. Thanks for the great comparison!

So I got the shark flex style and I’m obsessed! I have naturally curly hair so I prefer the stronger grip when using the brush attachment, but I can see it not being so great when you don’t have textured hair or simply don’t want a lot of tension. It can definitely be a bit too much. The shark also has a diffuser attachment which made it a no brainer for me since I can just use this one tool instead of needing different dryers. Thanks for the great review 😊

shark recently came out with new attachments like an actual round brush and smaller curlers
and im so glad they did cause overall i think the shark is better then the dyson overall including price, and performance but the oval shape of their round brush is probably the one thing i would change abt their tool

They’re both so expensive but the shark seems like a good replacement for the 600 Dyson. Thanks for the review! ❤

My daughter is of an age where she's interested in styling her hair a bit more (and mine!), so I took the plunge and bought the Dyson (my usually cheap heart nearly broke at the price!). It's good to hear that it's a more controlled heat & hopefully minimally damaging. I wanted it to replace a bunch of appliances & so far it's very much done that.

Thanks for this!!! I’ve watched some reviews comparing the two, but no one has mentioned that the shark might be damaging. That’s my main concern, the revlon one shot fried my hair. And the shark doesn’t seem very different. I think of you are going to use the shark to curl your hair, it’s worth it. If you want to use the other functions/ concerned about damage, the dyson wins.

It is easy to confuse breakage and shedding (in both directions unfortunately). The dyson paddle brush creates less tension so it will pull off the already shed strands much less than the shark would (we shed 50-100 hairs per day) whereas those shed hairs will catch more in the shark so it doesn't mean that it is breaking hair. This of course does not mean it cant or wont cause breakage, but any hair tool can cause many forms of damage if not used properly. Thank you for the in-depth review. You discussed many things other people have not. I so far am team shark 🙂

100% agree! The Shark gets way too hot even on lower heat setting & that’s damage to hair. I have been using the Dyson for about a year and it’s changed my hair, it’s so much healthier! Dyson is the way to go hands down but Shark is a good option if you’re not willing to spend the money

I will most likely be purchasing the shark flex style - just gonna wait a bit to see if they implement this type of feedback and fix the curling barrels! But I mean a $300 difference to achieve the same look if not a better one - its a no brainer for me!

Can you elaborate how heat damage is objectively measured on the hair? Or at least on your hair? Do you know how hot the dyson gets (in Fahrenheit etc) vs the shark? Why do you take Dyson’s statement of “no heat damage” at face value but don’t believe the Shark claim? Are there some studies that Dyson has done? Just curious on your why you recommended it for lesser heat damage because it’s a lofty claim by Dyson… And it sounds like they want us to believe it because it Carries a higher price tag.

I owned the shark flexstyle since October and I've been loving it for my hair. My hair has been stronger longer and healthier since I've been using it.
