Isaiah 66:10-14c
Gospel
Matthew 18:1-4
The disciples approached Jesus and said,
"Who is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven?"
He called a child over, placed it in their midst, and said,
"Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children,
you will not enter the Kingdom of heaven.
Whoever humbles himself like this child
is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven."
There is a saying ‘Success takes you to the top but Personality keeps you there’. In today’s Gospel reading Jesus reminded the disciples what it means to be a great person. He stresses on the importance of humility in order to be available for service. It is much easier to accept correction, suggestions and ideas when we have a child-like attitude. Jesus brought before them a child to give them a never to forget example of what it takes to be great. The feast today celebrates just this. St Teresa of the Child Jesus did ordinary things with great love. Her love for Jesus reflected in her actions of simplicity and humility. We are expected to have this virtue in our Christian calling so as to be part of God’s saving plan of salvation.
Activity: Spend some time to look into yourselves as to whether our actions are prompted by love and a sense of service or our ego.
