That's happening on Earth but its set in Future the titles says it the year 2898 AD which is 874 years from now . And the story is about the end of the world and from Mythology says that Lord Vishnu's last Avatar KALKI comes to save the world from KALI (Kamal Hassan) . So Amitabh Bacchan is playing Ashwatthama a warrior from Mahabharata Cursed by Lord Krishna with immortality with Pain to suffer till end of the time . Prabhas is playing Bhairava a Bounty Hunter in 2898 . So Deepika is carrying the baby who is KALKI . so Ashwatthama is helping her and Prabhas got a Bounty to bring Deepika to the bad side .

In the trailer it can be noticed Amitabh as Aswathama is bigger and taller than normal humans. Visually signifying he is indeed an ancient being who once fought alongside other gods depicted in the epics. Now in this strange futuristic world he rises again to fight a different war. A war he may finally find a redemption in his way.

This is based off of kalki purana(hindu scriptures) in which KALKI is the 10th incarnation or Avatar of lord VISHNU..and its prophecised that kalki would be born on earth at the end of kali yug(the age of kali(demon))!kalki would fight all the evils of earth & both astral realms along with 8 other immortals(Chiranjeevis) one of them Being the Amitabhs Character Ashwattama(which is another shiv avatar)! And Hanuman ji (another shiv avatar) etc etc! Bhairava the main character is a bounty hunter for now..and i have no idea of this character could merge in along with the puranic stories..now thats the thrill
