What does it mean to be authentic? | Sarah Archer | TEDxDrogheda

In this talk I want to shine a light on the masks we wear, and ask whether we really know who ‘we’ are…and whether we have the courage to show our true selves.

In today’s increasingly cynical world, ‘authenticity', ‘integrity' and ‘transparency' are words that are used in society as virtues, kite marks and differentiators, whether the arena is business, the arts, politics, nutrition or relationships.
We are seeking to strip away the spin, the facade and the fake in order to buy from, be entertained by, governed by, sustained by, or loved by the pure, the raw, the real, the clean, and the honest … but do they exist?
Hi, I'm Sarah Archer, and I see my mission in life as entertaining, educating and challenging people with my own stories, and helping others to become great speakers and storytellers.

This is instructive but enigmatic, clear yet thought-provoking, at the same time! Enjoy the journey - but I guess it's still worth spending some time on where and with whom we want to be fully present in those moments.

I agree with what she said when she mentioned that we may spend so much time worrying about the future and what we want to achieve that we forget to live the present. Maybe that is the case because we only think about and love the end result instead of the "journey" to attempt to reach whatever it is. I think loving the journey will not only get you thinking about the future but living the present as well. I don't know, just a thought...

Interesting to hear about authenticity from a comedian. People who fascinate me with their ability to talk something completely made up or highly exaggerated and not come clean about it. They obviously don’t have to as it’s literally their job but still impressive to keep doing it imo. Yet she talks about her awareness about herself and the world around it. The game is actually a great metaphor for the fact that you’re living life more right if you stop thinking about it, like a kid does. Curiosity is good, but understanding everything is impossible. But in my opinion that’s more about how to live/think and less about authenticity which is more about the choices you make with the knowledge you have and with wich motivation.

Death has the answer to the question "who am I?". Death's answer is "a dead body".

If you want to live in the present moment, no need to meditate. Just be born with ADHD.

It's weird because I feel like in a talk about authenticity, she isn't really talking about authenticity. I've only watched 3 minutes of this but it really didn't get to me
