Way back in 2006, Isaias Afewerki was an ardent supporter of the Islamic Union (aka, Al Shabab). In fact, he and Meles Zenawi had a bone of contention over this exact issue. And now, Isaias switched sides to oppose Al Shabab. This person has no principles to speak of. As for Eritrea's growing influence in the Horn (if it's true?) it's because there are too many weak leaders in the region. Meles is the yardstick by which to measure strength.
