St. John of Damascus was a Syrian Orthodox theologian who is considered to be one of the most important figures in Eastern Christianity. He wrote extensively on a variety of theological topics, including the nature of God, the Trinity, the Incarnation, and the sacraments.
One of St. John's most famous works is the Fount of Wisdom, a three-volume treatise on theology. In this work, he defended the Orthodox faith against the attacks of Islam and other heresies.
St. John of Damascus is also known for his hymns, many of which are still sung in Orthodox churches today. He is a patron saint of Damascus and of theologians.
