2001 honda shadow vt 1100 c ticking noise

It started with a quiet tick only once and a while when it got warmed up. Then one day while riding it went from no tick (about three minutes into riding) to this loud and scary sound. Cannot afford to take it to a shop, any help would be appreciated.

It's the classic VT1100 lifter tick. Mine does the same thing, drives me crazy.

It won't hurt anything (except maybe your pride), but I've heard solutions ranging from redlining it, to using Seafoam in the oil, to drilling out the oil ports. A quick Google search shows the decade of frustration this ticking sound has caused to Honda owners.

Every time mine will do this my oil tends to be a little low, dont know if its burning it or what. But i top it off and it stops. I do this once, maybe twice a season, so its not too bad to deal with

After about 4 different oil changes using different oils i ended up using valvoline vr1 racing oil the ticking stopped and have put about 500 miles on it since. Btw, my bike only has like 7800 miles on it.

Rotella T5 15W-40 helped my tick on my 02 Saber. Its basically almost completely gone now after just one short ride. If it doesn't clear up completely however in the next few rides, considering doing the oil port trick.

I had the same om my 1100 sabre, I fixed it easily, took me maybe one our, Oil and filter off . Drilling out aluminium plug in the top, (search under the top-head cover, Then you see it, ) Using 5 mm drill and then make 6 mm tread and 6mm screw with o ring, then i flush with carotene true this, Using couple of liter . Then blow with air.pressure so that I could here the oil channel was open ..Put new filter in and use 20/50 mineral, No ticking now, runs like a new machine . Replace oil and filter again and now using 20/50 mineral with zink additive . Been running maybe 1000 km now during last month, runs like new . Loosing pressure because of clogged oil channels, that is the reason of this ticking . No not use thin oil, The hydraulic adjuster bleeds true an can not build up pressure

try using 10w30 Mobile1 synthetic oil. I had the same issue and found it only happened with heavier oils. I put over 100k on my 99 spirit using this oil. reving the crap out of your engine does not help as some suggested.

I have a 2000 Sabre that is making the same noise. Started out a slight tick about a year ago... now Im ready to paint it yellow and green because it sounds like a john deere. Yes it is embarrassing. Ive tried Seafoam in the gas tank with no results. Is there seafom for the oil? I've used Lucas since I was gifted the bike in 2015, , with 32k, it now has 83k

A hose right in the middle under the gas tank came off on mine but it made my engine run funny...I believe it was like a vacuum line

I just tore my motor down to find the same issue... was it one of the hydraulic tappets?

Has anyone either fixed an 1100 tick or rode one ticking past the 200, 000 mi. Mark. It seems every one they made ticks in some form or another. My 1996 has a distinctive lifter or tappet noise like most but runs as good as friends 2018 107 Harley Davidson or at least he has let me think that.

Did you fix it, or find the reason of ticking?
I think it's hydraulic tappet. First of all check oil level and make it to max or try oil with higher viscosity.
What viscosity of oil did you use?
