So I recommend journalling before bed. It gets all your thoughts out. And THEN meditate. Usually people who jump into meditation, that's the only time they are just sitting with their thoughts. If you empty your mind first, then you can focus on your breath. It's easier to start with guided meditations, like the ones on youtube, because it's not just complete silence. A bit more active. Paired with some yoga, it gets you into a chill zen vibe.

I've stopped using my phone/laptop one hour before going to bed for the past two weeks, and it's been fantastic. Instead of watching YouTube/Reels/Netflix, I now read a book or do anything else that does not involve a screen. Now I sleep better and feel better when I wake up. And having a morning routine definitely helps, as it keeps me from using my phone first thing in the morning.

Some tips about reducing screen time:
At night:
1. Turn your phone to grayscale at night.
2. Turn on focus mode in digital wellbeing in which you can block some apps or only use a few essential apps.

General:
1. Turn all non-urgent notifications off. (Only turn on calls and messages basically)
2. Uninstall or disable all useless apps.
3. Leave your phone at home if you do not need it when you are going out.

Tip to reduce strain on eyes:
1. As mentioned in the video, use blue light filter from sunset to sunrise. Most phones have some sort of night mode in them.
2. Hold your phone farther from your face. Try to keep it at arm's length.

The night routine is also hard for me.
But the morning routine is a bit easier.

It's easier to wake up and stay away from your phone when you have plans in the morning, like working out...

Night mode really works for me… I know it looks weird, makes your pictures and other stuffs looks different, but in return it protects your eyes soo much. You’ll not believe but I’m right now at max night mode setting on my iPhone 😂. Happy New Year ❤

So I got recommended listening to a live gong soundtrack on loop as I sleep. At first my mind would race sleeping but by the third night I started to be able to sleep immediately and wake up feeling refreshed. Now I usually wake up right before my alarm goes off. The sounds are now triggers to put my phone away at night when the track starts to play.

Sleep advice: One thing that helped me sleep better was working out in the morning. I have a day job that involves sitting at a desk for 8/9 hours and then on top of that I like to play games so using that extra bit of energy in the morning not only helps me feel more pumped throughout the day but also fall asleep faster because I've spent more energy. Also reading before bed and just chatting with my partner have made me go from 1hour to fall asleep to like 5-15min depending on the days.

I have a loud noisy fan on all night, not for the breeze but the white noise it helps both me and my dog not listen for creaks and noises subconsciously.

David's video [as mentioned at 0:28] is really good.

i find that turning on a white noise or a fan sound helps me fall asleep faster and longer it also helps me clear my mind

I also work out at night because I am NOT a morning person and I couldn’t fathom getting up any earlier than I do now to get to work by 7 AM. I try to drink a glass of water as one of the first things I do when I wake up. Rehydrate! I also can’t fall asleep quickly at night and I hate it. Lifelong struggle.

Easiest way for me to not look at a screen before bed is that I listen to a soothing podcast before bed, in a dim room.. or I have a playlist of calming jazz music that I have conditioned myself like Pavlov's dogs to just pass out by the 3rd or 4th song... If not the podcast, the music works like 90% of the time.

I had no clue, but in retrospect am not even remotely surprised, that Marques is a CGP Grey fan. Love it.

I am not dependent on Melatonin but it helps maintain my schedule of falling asleep, it is worth it for building habits. The eye strain part in the morning in my case turned out to be due to bad neck posture and massaging it, using the right pillow etc helped ease that. Additionally my work requires looking at a screen so using artificial tears as a supplement to better regulating blinking is helpfull

As a person who constantly wears glassed due to not having the best vision would love for tech companies to incorporate some new lenses into those smart glasses. I am not a watch guy, let alone a smart watch, but I can totally see myself using the smart glasses paired with a phone but only if I can actually see everything around + some notifications, navigation, and other apps that a smart watch would provide but optimized for glasses.
