As a 37 year old male who is going to be 38 on November 5th disabled/special needs who can't drive this is a amazing video. Such a exciting time to be alive. FSD V12 is going to be level 5.

I have used FSD every day for the last 2 years. It's great. Don't get me wrong, though - it is FAR from 'perfect'. I know all the spots it usually struggles with, and I am more than confident with the system even with its shortcomings. I've used it all over the USA on my many long-distance (3, 000 to 5, 000 miles each) road trips. City driving is great. Highway driving has DRASTICALLY improved. But, the biggest struggle FSD has is rural routes. It simply does not do well. In many rural areas.

I'd even wager that the current version has slipped backwards in some instances.
Very eagerly awaiting FSD V12, and HW4 in my soon-to-be-mine CyberTruck (in the first 10k orders)

I tried the knee against the steering wheel trick but deactivated it unintentionally on a turn so I will never do that again. I just move the volume up and down when the nag comes on now. I can't wait for it to go away. I think it would be safer without that requirement. It can monitor attentiveness with the camera. The nag just draws my attention to the screen and to satisfying it instead of the road. If I actually kept my hands on the wheel all the time as I'm supposed to 1) it would defeat the purpose of a self driving system and 2) it increases the chances of unintentional deactivations, which are much more dangerous than just trusting the system to work properly.

I almost always use rear-view camera which includes visualization of the blind spots. That might be something you could consider when you have to have your seat far back and still be able to get full view of traffic behind you

The highlight of my week is using FSD! FSD is something I dreamed about as a kid in the 80's.

Begging your pardon, but FSD has been a thing for, like 6 years or more, and they still call is Beta -- how is that even remotely accurate. Is Windows 11 a Beta version of Windows?
I watched another FSD video a couple weeks ago that was shot in San Francisco, which is right in Tesla's backyard, and within the 15 minute video FSD had to be interrupted by the driver to prevent FSD from hitting parked cars -- it also blew through a stop sign and did so at way more than the typical California rolling stop. In 2018 Musk stated, without and hedging at all, that FSD could take you from CA to NY with the driver never interrupting FSD -- in 2023 that's still not possible. BTW, how much does it cost to add FSD to the car at time of purchase? My understanding is that FSD is about $15K by itself -- so you the owner of the car are giving Tesla $15K, not for FSD, but for the promise of FSD. And, many years later we still do not have true FSD.
Also, while you can pat yourself on the back for making a drive like this I might remind you that Tesla has released video that purports to show fully functional FSD more than 5 years ago. You can cherry pick a route and time of day and doing so might make it look like FSD is where it needs to be, but plenty of other videos show that even places that Tesla should be 100% familiar with and FSD is still trying to hit parked cars and kids riding bikes!

I think zipper merge does what it’s supposed to: go to the end. In LA, we frequently have drivers who preemptively cut over, not realizing that they’re just extending their own drive by doing that. If everyone zippered at the end of the merge, the left-hand lane would have a much smoother experience. The question is: had there been a car perpendicular to you, what would FSD have done? Probably only Tesla can answer.

I love the view that your new camera position is providing, and also the illumination of the pedals is a very nice feature!
After some time now I have to thank you again for these videos and your neutral non-hyping commentary.

Just one question: how much does FSD satisfy you as a user rather than a tech geek? I mean, in the end you are paying Tesla for working for them, for doing some kind of testing work which a normal company would have to pay people in order they would do it!
I really appreciate your voluntary contribution and role as an early adopter and FSD tester, or should I say teacher to FSD!

According to Tesla you are to keep your hands on the wheel while auto pilot is enabled

Nice trick with the knee bump onto the steering wheel. I was wondering how did you disable to alert without putting your hands on the steering wheel?
If you didn't mention it, I wouldn't have known. Very cool!

Try those little all-glass blind spot mirrors. Really helps with seeing those "invisible" cars, especially since the car lacks an integrated monitoring system. Replace the stock adhesive /use some 3M VHB tape so they don't go flying off at highway speed (ask me how I know).

I agree with merge-I also have to disengage sometimes as it won’t fall Behind and tries to pass on right as merge coming to one lane.

How are you getting your pov? How are you also show the speed views? My life has changed since buying a Tesla a couple of months ago as I get panic attacks driving on expressways. Got a FSD subscription and I am back on. I want to document this like you are to educate those who are not aware of the changes we are going through for the better. Thanks for your content that helped me buy my first EV and FSD.

I have a suggestion and if you agree maybe you can somehow get it to Tesla. As you note, we can classify situations on a spectrum from hard to relatively easily for FSD to manage. Currently, it seems like the idea is to keep improving FSD to handle all these situations and then somehow prove to regulators that it's safer, significantly safer than humans. But what if the software created a green zone where FSD can easily manage. Tesla could do this in an workable state. Even start with a stretch of Interstate. The software identifies the green zone and you don't have to keep your knee on the wheel or whatever. You need data to show FSD is safer. With that data, you can start building these green areas with greater and greater coverage. You have your foot in the door. I drive b/n Raleigh NC and Arlington on i85 and i95. Nearly all could be green (even though for politics, this would not be a good start). IOW, start taking bites.

Damn your Tesla's FSD is fast. How did you get this update 10 months ago? I'm still stuck on FSD 12.3.6.. But great video!
