// WELCOME //

New here?? I would love to get to know you better!
I'll go first:
I'm Kaela, a Homeschool Graduate turned Homeschool Momma.
My husband & I have 4 beautiful daughters. We are a Latino family, living our best life in a little 1930s fixer-upper in South Central Texas. Although we are a family of faith, we typically stick to secular resources in our homeschool.
I love homeschooling, pretty books, dance breaks, and turning my humble abode into a home.
Oh, and a lot of coffee!
I hope you'll stay awhile 🧡

We love the Fishtank ELA units!

Rooted in Language discusses using picture books at higher grade levels in their Trees in the Forest book (I think they have a few blog posts about it as well), if you decide you need some structure while you're winging it 🙃

We did Fabled Stables level 0 from LitHouse this past spring, and my son loved it! I'm going to be adding more into our school year.

I like your plan to spread Beowulf out for this child. We love Beowulf!
I hope you like All About Spelling. I got it for my 3rd grader last fall and we had to ditch it. I definitely recommend prepping it as well. That was one of my mistakes for the program was not prepping it and feeling overwhelmed with things each time we did a lesson.

Thanks for sharing! I have a second grader this year and also want to add in more picture books and literature into her year. I’m leaning towards memoria press enrichment study for second grade. They have a list a picture books and have the option to dive deeper to other topics as well. Another option is Five in a row. That’s a really good one too!

Yay!!! For curriculum week. And for re-using AAR and it's already prepped. I have been loving that with starting it for round 2. I'm intrigued by Typesy...

It was great seeing your picks! I too hope to incorporate some lit house units for my younger daughter this coming school year. With the Dimensions math test booklets I really think its dependent on the child. With my younger daughter its not necessary as math comes fairly easy for her and she tends to get a near perfect score on the tests. I have her continue to do them though as test prep practice and to help build her stamina as focus can be hard for her. For my oldest it is more a necessity as she needs more continuous review. I really like the continual assessments in the test booklets as Dimensions isn't great at providing a lot of review of previous taught concepts. Hope you have a great 2nd grade year and I look forward to the rest of your curriculum pick videos this week.

I would love a side-by-side break down between the teacher’s guide and home instructors guide. We are using Dimensions again this year after using it for pre-k last year and loved it! I know 1st grade is the first year where you can choose between the two and I was debating using switching over to the home instructors guide.

I have 5 and tried to do a similar reading program (LOE) with my younger 2 using two different levels 😭 and 2 different levels of Math With Confidence which is also pretty intensive. Way too much while also juggling 3 middle schoolers. This year I'm trying Reading Lessons Through Literature with both of them along with its copy work, English Lessons Through Literature, and TGTB Handwriting.

Have you previously shared a video about how you handle copy work? I want to try it this year, but Idk where to start!

We don't use Dimensions but I forgo the tests with our math curriculum. I agree that it seems to be more of a necessity for public school. I can sit beside my children and watch to see where their struggles are. I don't see the value of the tests for our homeschool.

I purposely buy AAR used to save money AND so someone else preps it all!
