Video of MB Man Shot by RCMP Circulating Online

Videos are circulating on social media that allegedly show an RCMP officer in Thompson Manitoba, shooting a man, who officers allege had a knife. As Mark Neufeld reports, the community is left with questions around why the shooting took place.

Why is it concerning chief?, man with a knife wouldn’t comply with orders to stop.. it’s not the movies tasers don’t always work, can’t shoot the knife out of his hand or risk shooting him in the leg when the “aggressor” is that close… why not just take responsibility for your actions for once and stop blaming everyone…. What’s concerning is the violent crime in downtown Winnipeg.. resent shootings and elderly people being attacked.. why don’t we address those issues start holding people accountable like the gangs and the characters that are responsible for most of the crime.

Not all RCMP carry Tasers. A taser may be used when there are 2 officers, there is cover from the suspect(cover meaning something like a vehicle or other hard object) and the suspect is some distance away.

The concern is why a taser wasn’t used?!? How about why some lunatic was menacingly approaching a police officer with a knife as he was clearly backing away. Some of these idiots need to live the life of an officer for just a day.

Buddy had a weapon period. Despite whatever his mental state or condition or history was, or if he was spanked as a child too bad. Police do not wrestle the knife away or use a stick (baton) to block it. It’s a means to stop the threat immediately, stop whining about what his issue was. At that time it was not appropriate to talk about his feelings.

If someone is walking towards you, when you are alone, and that person has a deadly weapon out and is intending on using it, you don't spray him with pepper spray or electricity, you use deadly. That cop did the right thing, if you think otherwise, then you are wrong. "They want answers"? I would hope so! Why is one of your people approaching an officer with a knife?? We want answers!

Sad for the family. But, when Police give commands to stop advancing, stop, get on the ground..etc... it's wise to follow. The RCMP followed protocol and shot for body mass. The officer was alone and feared for his safety. Knife or no knife. What was the officer suppose to do?? Allow the man to assault him?? We'd have another JJ Harper situation possibly

It's so easy to sit back and say what should have happened after the fact but put yourself in the officer's shoes the guy was coming after him with a knife, maybe if he didn't come after him with a knife he wouldn't have been shot!

If it doesn't, he may not have time to switch to the next option if that man chose to rush him. The officer was by himself, at that point I am guessing when faced with someone coming towards you with a knife you're options are pretty limited and you may only have one chance to get it right?
