What am I!?
An eastern quoll!!
A what?! A small marsupial about the size of a domestic cat.
They are a delight to watch...and this is one of Tasmania's biggest predators!
They bound around mostly at night eating small mammals, birds, lizards, and insects. Quolls are native to Australia and New Guinea. The eastern quoll became extinct on Australia's mainland in 1960 - not that long ago. My parents were tromping around Europe as eastern quolls were losing a battle to exist.
Current status is listed as endangered on the IUCN red list.
It was a highlight of the trip to see these little animals bounding around. I hope these little darlings can be seen to thrive, bounding around, and running through the night for generations to come.
