Basho's Winter by Kristen Perfanick

The 2020/2021 New Song project at the Desautels Faculty of Music grew out of the Song Interpretation course, a bi-yearly class which pairs singers and collaborative pianists in the exploration of Art Song. Kristen Perfanick, a 3rd-year Composition student at the Desautels Faculty of Music chose four haikus by 17th C. poet Matsuo Basho, Basho’s Seasons, and set them as two solos and two duets. Kristen Perfanick’s Basho’s Seasons are characterized by expressive musical lines and delicate, poignant textures.
