Elizabeth II has been Queen of England for over 65 years, making her both the oldest and the longest-reigning monarch in British history. So much tradition, fascinating symbolism (are details of the symbols interwoven into HRH Elizabeth’s coronation available); can you imagine how unifying and uplifting this must have been for the British people, especially those lining the streets, who had so recently experienced the devastation of War?

I understand the division, at times, over England's existing monarchy, but, even as an American, I see the continuance of the monarchy of such a historically significant country and monarchy, the country has a lot of very good reason to be proud of and in favor of the crown. Yes, it's true the positions are inherited, but the reality remains that the people ultimately get to decide whether or not the incoming head of state is worthy of the crown; this has been a fact for some centuries now. As well, in a more relative manner, I do see England's monarchy as a direct "relative" to myself as my grandmother was born in Liverpool, England, not long before the outbreak of WWII. This makes me only two generations out of England. 💂‍♂️😊
