Hopefully this will help another Honda Element, Honda CRV or Honda Civic Wagon owner out! These techniques have really helped me though the years in the snow and mud. Ive never gotten one of these stuck enough to where i cant get it out on my own. Its all about knowing the limitations of the vehicle and tire your using! Drive at your own risk but always have some fun!

"they do everything good, they don't do anything great" is a perfect description!

It's truly a great video man. I got my element just before winter here in Southwest Michigan. It's amazing in the snow. I never thought about what you're saying, but I've done that with all my four-wheel drive vehicles that way in snow. 🤷‍♂️

One thing I've come to find out the darn thing is super squirrely on anything ice. Be safe, enjoy winter. 73

Great info. I love your Element motto that it does everything good, nothing great… that is probably the simplest way to describe it and is why I think to have a single vehicle, there may be nothing better. The AWD system is at least simple, probably its best feature. I’d ideally love to have option for on demand 4WD with manual locking hubs, just for offroad.

Never thought I'd see one of the bros teaching people how to drive responsibly (correctly) instead of the old "when in doubt, flat out" method, but you showcased the difference between the two pretty perfectly. Not every car responds well to mo powah

Good video :) as someone who some times has to drive on snow and ice those were good tips and information, ill have to add that many times stopping is more important then going

Also the later year elements have a traction control button. It makes a slight difference in deep snow. Its suppose to activate the rear wheels more easy.

My 2007 Element feel really sure-footed in the snow, but I worry about drifts and/or getting in some deep snow. I'm thinking about getting some recovery boards as a backup. Any thoughts?

Most classic 4WD's do not have lockers (locking speed of both sides of axle, center diff, etc)... What's important for people to understand is that "4wd" and "awd" are MARKETING terms, there are dozens of different ways to drive 4 wheels (center diff, low/high, center clutch, locker/s, open diffs, break vectoring, etc..)... they all achieve some level of driving 4 wheels, and neither "4wd" or "awd" describe EXACTLY what system you have. The only way to define it, is to describe what it is that it actually does.

In case of element, it has the crappiest 4wd arrangement (with no manual engage, unfortunately), it is DEFINITELY NOT AWD (doesn't drive 4 wheels constantly). Again, this is not an insult, it just has open diffs, and a center clutch that engaged rear axle when front slip detected. That's exactly what it is, it's a simple system, and it's better than nuthin', and it DEFINITELY WORKS.

Nice collection of cars BTW...
