Tail, and the End of Logs

Literally the end of log files. With Tail you can avoid wading through thousands of lines of text, and just see the most recent part of a log file. Or any file, for that matter.

Tail can also display a file in real time, updating your screen every time the log is written to.

and if you only want to see the top of the file you can use head. I forget the program but i had a log file that would append to the beginning (top/head) of the file. I think the reason was so included utilities just needed to open and view the beginning of the log to see the most recent.
