In a heartfelt eulogy shared on Facebook, Lee Hsien Yang (LHY) paid tribute to his sister, Dr Lee Wei Ling, who passed away on 9 October 2024 at the age of 69. Her funeral is being held today, 12 October.

He described Dr Lee as an extraordinary individual whose contributions to medicine and devotion to their family were immense. Lee Hsien Yang also expressed profound sorrow over the loss of his beloved sister.

He shared that Dr Lee had requested a simple funeral, with her ashes to be scattered at sea.

Reflecting on their final moments, he recalled bidding her farewell in June 2022, and expressed regret that he could not attend her final send-off.

LHY conveyed a message from Dr Lee, in which she reaffirmed their parents’ wish for their home at 38 Oxley Road to be demolished after their deaths.

“My father’s, LEE KUAN YEW, and my mother’s, KWA GEOK CHOO, unwavering and deeply felt wish was for their house at 38 Oxley Road, Singapore 238629 to be demolished upon the last parent’s death. LEE KUAN YEW had directed each of his 3 children to ensure that their parents’ wish for demolition be fulfilled. He had also appealed directly to the people of Singapore. Please honour my father by honouring his wish for his home to be demolished.”

Dear Hsien Yang, I am one of your sister Wei Ling’s fans. Her articles in the Straits Times were full of wisdom, humanity, professionalism and inspiration. She will live on in the hearts of many of us. We salute you for standing with Wei Ling and working hard to fulfill your parents’ wishes. I wish you and your family peace, health and all the best in life.

As Singaporeans, we owe a debt of gratitude to our founding father, Lee Kuan Yew. His humble abode at 38 Oxley Road holds immense historical significance and should not be demolished.

Mr. Lee's contributions to Singapore's prosperity are unparalleled. He built a strong foundation for our nation, and his legacy continues to inspire future generations.

The house serves as a testament to his simplicity and thriftiness. Despite having the means to renovate luxuriously, he chose not to. This reflects his character and values, which should be preserved and shared with future generations.

Concerns surround the changed will, allegedly executed under unclear circumstances when Mr. Lee was not fully coherent. It is questionable whether Lee Hsien Yang, whose wife might benefit from the changed will, should decide the house's fate.

Moreover, as filial children, we believe that Mr. Lee's deepest wish would be for his siblings to remain in harmony, rather than engage in disputes over his final wishes. Demolishing the house would only fuel this discord.

In accordance with Chinese Taoist and Buddhist beliefs, the house serves as a spiritual connection for Mr. Lee's soul to return and rest. Let us preserve this sacred space, allowing his spirit to find peace and continue guiding us.

We urge the National Heritage Board to study the case and determine the best course of action. Lee Hsien Loong's stance on leaving the decision to the Board is commendable.

Let us honour Mr. Lee's memory by preserving his home. It is a fitting tribute to his selflessness and leadership. His legacy will live on through this meaningful preservation.

I urge all Singaporeans to join me in advocating for the preservation of 38 Oxley Road.

I enjoyed reading her Straits Times articles.
And was disappointed when they stopped. Didn't know ST terminated it.
From them, I found a compassionate doctor.
I'll always remember her writing that the elderly with multiple conditions visiting a Specialist as a subsidised patient should not be attended by a new Registrar but by an experienced Specialist. She really cares for patients

What a shame that all this heartbreak is over a house. The parents have already stated their dying wish and it’s well publicised even when they were alive. There’s no alternate truth as that was their actual wish. We should respect that.

It’s extremely sad to have such an IMPORTANT HISTORIC landmark ie where the Father of Singapore lived out his years to be demolished. All Singaporeans should be eternally grateful that LWY brought Singapore prosperity, peace and the continued success. As in UK, houses where past famous politicians, etc, lived, they place a big blue plaque on the wall of the house with name of person, who was he and dates birth/death. Mr Lee Kuan Yiew SHOULD NOT be forgotten!!!!

Sincere condolences to u & your family.
A good bond between 2 or more siblings is a BLESSING !
A house is only a home to those who live in it!
Once the occupants are gone, it holds NO more value & PURPOSE !
A legacy to HONOUR Mr LKY is not a house but a country that continues to flourish through the steps that he had ENVISIONED for it through his heartfelt years of sweat & toil !
May Dr Lee RIP.
May LKY wishes be honoured !
If SINGAPOREANS does RESPECT LKY, then they should HONOUR his wishes to demolish his home!
LKY has already led the FOUNDATION for SINGAPORE !
One DONT need a house to REMEMBER him by !
To each their own opinion.
May common sense prevails.
Waste of time to continue discussing about a HOUSE & fighting among siblings on it !
A RELATIONSHIP is more important than a HOUSE !
Isnt it ?
God bless

I remembered first time reading the late Ms LWL, writing about her encounters as a doctor, travelling, and her relationship with her parents. l was impressed with her grounded nature. And feel sad when she wrote how she was coping and managing pain from her illness. One time she wrote she can't sleep on mattress and have to sleep on a mat that gave an idea how she was coping her pain. Then came the sibling fall out, one problem after another. Hopefully, she's at a better place reuniting with her dearest parents. It was nice to read that both her nephews are taking care of their Aunt's last journey on behalf of their father, LHY. Rest In Peace, Miss Lee. 🌹

I am a die-hard fan of the Lee family and was heart broken when LKY passed. Totally devastated when the Lee siblings fought over a house. I hope the remaining siblings would reconcile. I am hopeful.
