Face Oils - What's Best For Your Skin Type?

This is the second part to my Skincare Chat about Moisturizers and it’s all about Facial Oils. These are powerful ingredients that really require a good understanding of which work for what skin type. They are supremely nourishing but some facial oils can be drying and straight up astringent, while others are pore clogging or cause skin irritation, sometimes severe. Continue to keep in mind that we all have different skin and the ability to tolerate different ingredients. The categories are SIMPLE guidelines for you. A lot of these oils have multiple uses and fall under more than one category like the oils in the anti-aging one which can also be for dry skin, oily skin etc.

Since my skin can only tolerate certain oils that many others cannot, rather than featuring the oils I use, I would rather explain what is out there for all skin types. This video is purely to help you recognise ingredients in other oil blends out there or moisturisers.

Hopefully this can give you a simple guideline to the oils we hear about and see the most in formulations. If you’re using severely drying treatments like Retin A, Peels, astringent or prescription acne treatments, the right oils can really return the proper moisture back into your skin. Many oils are also great at reducing inflammation and irritation. I can’t stress enough that when buying oils, you are getting what you pay for. Some oils like Argan are so labor intensive, if you find a cheap bottle out there, it’s over processed and diluted with cheap fillers.

These fabulous oils are in a lot of the products I’ve reviewed and mentioned in previous videos so stay tuned, I will do another video with my favourite oil products.

If you mentioned coconut oil for oily acne prone skin, I was going to Thank God, someone who knows what they're talking about

99% of the videos I see on here talking about this drive me crazy. You can just tell that these people probably google 'best oils for your face' and spend ten minutes reading about it but have no actual understanding of the oils themselves and the real pros and cons to them. Your video deserves a lot more attention. Thanks so much for being this thorough and educational! Most people still have no clue what they're putting on their skin (A VERY IMPORTANT ORGAN) even when they've been told it's healthy for them by some big youtuber lmao.

She is right about Argan oil causing acne or increased rosacea, and she's the only one I've heard mention this. Everyone else seems to extol the virtues of Argan oil ad infinitum, but I tried it and it honestly has caused breakouts on my chin AND not helped my rosacea. It also always felt oily on my skin, but rosehip seed oil feels "dry, " and hemp oil also feels dry, so I cleanse my face with hemp oil and use rosehip for anti-aging only at night.

I used to spend so much money on Korean skincare products, but I decided to try going natural and switch over to all oils. My skin has never looked better! My favorite is a mix of rosehip and sweet almond oil. I love how minimal my routine is, too.

I have had oily and acne prone skin for years! I used the mixture of oils recommended for my skin type in this video. And it feels like my skin became normal overnight. Thank You!

good video!
People with oily skin must remember that they should wash their face only twice a day. frequent face wash can lead to drying of skin which will send the signal to create more oil. This can be counter productive.
Also, a gel based moisturiser is a must to maintain skin barrier.

While I like using essential oils, I'm so happy someone mentioned that lavender essential can be harsh (I don't use it). I'm also glad you mentioned how citrus oils can be phototoxic. Not all of them are phototoxic (sweet orange oil is not). Most of them are phototoxic though, especially depending on the distilling method used. Again, I'm so glad someone finally decided to include this. Essential oils can be useful but only when used properly.

Yes! Camellia oil is the best! I have very dry skin, and camellia oil and jojoba oil are the only oils that work for me. The rest just sort of sit on top or even irritate my skin.

I use rosehip oil as my nightly cream. I have oily skin and hormonal acne, and it really helped with uneven textured skin, scaring, uneven skin tone, etc. I know it is more for mature skin (and I'm in my 20's) but it works wonders so I'm keeping it! When my skin gets irritated, I use calendula/marigold oil. It's great for any type of irritation, it worked wonders overnight for a friend who had a really bad sunburn on her face.

This was a fantastic explanation! I have a combination of skin because it is oily and acne prone, but seems to be dry after using commercial acne products for years. For two weeks I've taken out all products I previously used (hidden them for now, including cetaphil), and use a homemade olive oil based cold cream (it does have lavender, but doesn't seem to irritate at all). Despite olive being better for dry rather than oily skin, my skin has healed most of the acne I had and some redness in my lower jawline from the powerful acne topical medication I used ten years ago is going down.

I'm intrigued by rosehip, jojoba, grapeseed and avocado! Tea tree is fabulous as a spot treatment.
