Thank you. The ear cushion came off and I used a pair of tweezers to put them back in.

To anyone having a similar issue to me where the pads wouldn't turn: try warming it with a hairdryer for a few minutes (carefully).

It seems if you've had the pads on for a while some of the glue can work its way out and stick the pad in place, heating it up loosens the glue so it turns much easier.

I tried this but can't get it twisted off. I find the speckled part is too slippery, there is no good way to hold on to it.

Good thing I don't actually need to replace the cushions, I'm just curious hehe

I really hope change your earbuds to have a replaceable battery like these:
Bicac or Ederfun Y28.

You know what's even better for the environment? Wired headphones. But I guess you couldn't charge quite so much for them, hence the removal of the headphone jack so you can rip us all off and create even more lithium battery waste.
