Kind of a Cherry picked example because this particular song has an actual melody on bass. Most of bass in music is just played in the background with notes that are meant to go well with the guitar chord being played. But nonetheless, bass is a key part in any song I’m my opinion and I’d love to learn it one day.

Doesn't matter the genre you take the bass out you take the life of the song out. Bass is the rhythmic glue that holds all the other instruments together. Everything falls apart with out it also the drums equally as important. Obviously certain genres have more prominent bass lines where bass is lead instrument like reggae for instance
