So you can become a member on my YouTube channel now (there’s a pun here somewhere…)
Being a member means you get 30 exclusive videos, all the artwork, all my scripts, a live stream every weekend, exclusive emojis and some other stuff I probably forgot, but… it’s totally worth it. Trust me bro. Link is here:

A video on the Jounrey to the West and Sun Wukong was honestly long overdue, and what better occasion than the release of Black Myth Wukong to drop it? So, whether you already played the game, are currently playing or planning to play… there’s much more to Sun Wukong than just the one video game. The staff, the headband, the shapeshifting… it’s all based on an ancient tale:
Sun Wukong, aka the monkey king, is the central character of the 16th Century epic Journey to the West, which basically inspired half of all modern anime… most of all Dragonball and One Piece, so yeah… it’s a big deal. 2000 pages of pure epic, and I’m condensing it into 20 minutes. What could go wrong…

Notes:
Since the Journey to the West is a seriously large book, I obviously omit a lot of the groups’ adventures. Sun Wukong, Sandy, Pigsy and Tang Sanzang get into way, way, way more stuff than I had to chance to touch on in this video. If you want to read the original tale then… more power to you, because that book is seriously old and a chore. There are however modern adaptions of The Journey to The West, some written in a very, very entertaining manner while providing all relevant information. If you want the exact books, drop a comment and I’m happy to share.

The game scenes in the beginning are from Black Myth: Wukong.

As a Chinese, we were often told by our mothers when we were toddlers that we were born out of a rock, whenever we didn't behave well. Hence we all were Wukong in our childhood.

"He just had to leave his mark by tagging it." Yeah he 100% pissed on the "pillar", which was how he knew he failed, the Buddah presented his finger which still smelled like piss lol

Man, one thing I have to say, that stuff Sun Wukong wields, is not wooden. It's forged of black iron, weighs 6750 kilograms, appx 14800 pounds.

The cloud is not a plot hole. The whole point is that the monk must experience 81 troubles to be able to arrive at the holy mountain and get the scripts. He will never find or arrive at the holy mountain with the cloud.

As a Chinese, I have to say that this video is excellent. You have interpreted Journey to the West from a western perspective in a simple and easy-to-understand way, with some crude jokes, typical western biases, and over-interpretations... Nevertheless, this video is quite entertaining.
Journey to the West, as one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature, encompasses various aspects such as religion, the Oriental worldview, geography, humanities, society, and so on. It is not merely a mythological tale but a work that requires immense effort for Westerners to fully comprehend the literary connotations behind the myths. Learning about it can be extremely costly. However, this kind of video serves as an excellent foundation for those who wish to gain some understanding of it.

Nice, cool to note the Monkey king also went to the underworld and erased his name from the book of destiny, so yea hes immortal a couple times over. 😅

The actual monk that made the real journey is some badass. He is a court appointed monk, when he asked to leave for the journey to go to learn more about Buddhism at the origin, he was rejected by the court. So he decided to leave anyway. The palace put up a man-hunt for him across China as he run and hide, and made his way thru modern day Afganistan, India (pretty much close to Sri Lanka), Bangladesh and return to China close to 20 years later.

The game was made mostly for chinese people who grew up with extensive knowledge about journey to the west. But to sum it up, if anyone is bothered to read this. Sun Wukong is a mythical creature born from the rock left by one of the creators of human kind (mythology). Gets his power by training with a master (puti- daoism) and wants a place in the heavens as a god. But the heavens disrespects him and gives him a bad position (horse keeper) so then he defies the heavens and crossed his name out on death (he can legit never die unless he chooses to). Then he fights the entire heaven (yes the entire celestial army + jade emperor) and basically wins until buddha had to come and pretty much banish him and cage him under a mountain (5 finger mountain). He is appraoched 500 years later by tang seng (buddhism monk), given the so called "crown" that you see and goes on "the journey to the west" where him and 3 other yaoguai turned good had to protect their shifu from other yaoguai (81 challenges) to receive the buddhas teachings from the west. In the balck myth game, the game takes place after the original story where wukong has successfully completed the journey and was named fighting buddha. That same crown I talked about earlier enabled tang seng to recite a buddhist verse which caused wukong to be obedient and lose his powers. He thought theyd removed it but in which they havent and the same spell still works on him. In order to dismiss the control of the buddhas, he basically chose to die hence why erlang killed him but only pretended to fight him. The main character of black myth is a young monkey who takes on the challenge of trying to find all of wukong's 6 missing things and basically become him. Thats why in the cutscene erlang says that he cannot kill the monkey, only wukong and kill himself. By killing himself, he is able to avoid the so called spell by spliting himself into 6 pieces. With the final one (his will) in erlang's 3rd eye if you play the game thats what happens when u win against erlang. Anywho, the game makes you collect all 6 of his pieces to "ressurect him" but the bad ending ends when he gets the crown put on him, meaning he never escaped. But the "good" ending, the main character gets his memories back which just so happens to be wukongs memories, without the crown. Meaning that you've successfully brought the real wukong back and that he does not need to go back into reincarnation.

The constant stopping & tangents for dry jokes made this a hard watch. Man the contents so good but man let it play with more details every 20sec. Pause. Joke. Back. Pause. Joke. 🤦🏻
