Dude I am an Arab cashier in an Arab town and this happened to me every shift. It was funny at first but then got so annoying when there was like a stressful day with a lot of people in line. It got to the point where whoever hands me their card / cash first I just snatch it from their hands and do a quick swipe with a "oops. Sorry about that"

Several years ago, I was a waiter at this small time Italian joint. I was taking a party of 20 and the check was split to the respective families. I handed one of the tickets to one husband of one of the families at the table. When I went to retrieve it, his wife was trying to snatch the bill from him. He slides his card in the book and hands it to me. His wife then rips the book out of my hand, tosses his card out and slides her card in and hands it back to me. That was the most adorable fight over the bill I had ever seen! I still think about that family some times.
