Its not hard to come up with 15$ a month. Either you don't have a job or you're 12 years old while this is a mature rated game. I'm a university student and work a job as well, I'm not rich but damn it's not like it costs THAT much. When was the last time you went to eat somewhere or grab a drink that WASN'T food bought from a grocery store? Probably 5-10 times this month, so stop complaining!
The subscription fee is an amazing feature. ALL new content is included within this, you never have to pay or buy an expansion. Jobs are created and left open for employees to keep supporting the servers and do work.. and any harassment, gold selling, or hacking in any manner can be dealt with just like that.

Of course you don't need a subscription fee to survive and/or make cash. Like he said in the interview though, they don't want to have any cash-related things in the game to break immersion. Look at GW2's cashshop interface, that's exactly what they want to avoid having in their game. They feel, and I agree with them, that it doesn't fit in an Elder Scrolls game which is supposed to be as immersive it can be. I applaud them for understanding this and doing their best to keep it that way.

He didn't say they would lock dungeons, he was giving an example of F2P models. All sub-based mmos have cash shops for cosmetic reasons and changing character names etc. Everything else is standard if you want a quality mmo, with good support and frequent content.

What they should do, is release a f2p model and p2p model. So those of us who want full access to the game, can play the p2p model, have the obvious advantage over the game. And those who are to broke, can buy the individual pieces of the game for a lesser amount of money.

I love ZOS, but the suits at ZeniMax Media, Inc are to be blamed for the subscription fee. Keep up the great work ZOS, give us the game we want!

European beta? Does this mean they are not yet inviting people from Europe or??

Paying a subscription it awesome to me! I hate the free to pay model. Its always begging you to buy things and well cheating to make you spend money.  Free to play is good for games that dont want to grow. Usually  those are the games that either cost to much come end game or are just played out by than. I love Elder scrolls universe and want it to stay AWESOME

In germany the I and U dont sound the same so it has nothing to do with pronounciation. The reporter probably didn't do his homework and forgot Matt's surname

It feels like it. Yet I haven't heard from at least one NON-US Citizen in the beta. If that means anything... makes sense though. Test the server in the US first and start the european one later.

I have heard from a couple European players in the beta, some on facebook some on Reddit.

Guild Wars 2 showed us you don't need a subscription fee to reel in the cash, the only reason for a subscription these days is greed.

If it happens, I'll eat my GW2 installation disc.

Alright, maybe just the slip of paper with my serial code. Less chance of internal lacerations.

You might be underestimating ESO, we will find out soon..

Stop wining about subscription fees. If you want quality dlcs, a subscription fee helps.

I have never played a Triple-A F2P or B2P MMO that required players to pay for content. So Firor's defense of the subscription model is extremely flawed. Many F2P and B2P business models make their money by selling quality of life improvements, Fluff and Armor/Weapon Skins.

Good point there, but his explanation felt very weak and as if he was trying to just clutch at straws. The thing about GW2 was that everything was completely optional and if you didn't want any of that stuff, you just don't open the interface for it. At least they're not bumping it above WoW's sub fee, or doing what SWTOR did and.. Well SWTOR was just a horrible move.
Fuck it, I guess if they actually live up the hype, a subscription is worth it.

Glad to hear you can't wear costumes in pvp. Stealth is going to be so much fun knowing who the free kills are.

They invested millions of dollars in this game. Of course they want to earn money. No one said it would be 60 dollars by the way
