Steve Carrell stopped watching the British version of the comedy series due to the fact that he didn’t want to copy Ricky Gervais’ performance as the office manager. John Krasinski and Rainn Wilson were avid viewers of the British version though. Production of the series was halted in 2007 for the writer’s strike, and Steve Carrell refused to go to work as a way to show support for the writers. In fact, on the first day of the strike, he called in sick to the studio and said that he had a case of enlarged balls.

Pretty sure he stopped watching it bc it was a bland and terrible show.
The US version of The Office is exponentially better in every way.
