How to Make Steering Wheel Cover With Leather DIY

So, how to make your own steering wheel from scratch…
First, you will need a couple of things:

1x Piece of leather big enough for your steering wheel cover, easiest to find on Ebay:

1x Sewing machine that can sew leather

1x Rotary cutter

1x Cutting mat A0

2x Square Ruler

1x Long Rule with Handle

1-3x Black Bonded Nylon thread (and any other colour you may like)

1x Sewing Clips

1x Sharp scissors

1x Leather Needles

1x Walking Foot

How to make car Steering Wheel Cover from Leather video tutorial.

Then to the measured size we are adding as follows:
To the width (grip circumference) we are adding 2.4 cm of the margin where the edges of the steering wheel cover fold.
To the length we are adding 1cm extra that we will later cut off after joining the leather strap.

Step 1: Straighten two edges of the leather to create start point.
Step 2: Cut the other end of the leather to create leather strap, check your measurement.
Step 3: Cut the long edge to make leather strap for our steering wheel cover.
Step 4: Mark sewing path with the oval shape tool.
Step 5: Sew together both ends of the leather strap
Step 6: Cut the excess of the leather above the stitch
Step 7: Use clips to fold the edges of the steering cover.
Step 8: Sew the folded edge
Step 9: Repeat steps 7-8 for the second stitch, you can use different colour.
Step 10: Cut off the excess thread, make sure that the thread is properly tied.
