I am a HUGE advocate of the Spike trap being the best weapon technique.
It is so much more versatile, and you can aim it so much easier than the splitting spike.

just finished the new game plus, man what a blast. oh so i find drill spikes to be op as heck, i just pop brittle, low health buffs and defy death, then load drill spikes with knockdown power and long range, 1 or 2 spikes and i feel bad for apex dreadwing and slaughterspine, they can't even attack properly, aloy just standing there and they're missing.

Ms personally, I use braced shot because it looks cool but I agree its not the best right now. I will say that personally I like powershredder mostly because it is fast and cheap to craft more Shredders.
