Challenges Facing Foster Kids Aging Out Of The System

I aged out of the foster system. I was 11 when I went in, I moved around to a few different ones until I was 18. I found out that I was considered an ‘adult’ then and able to leave, so I did. I went in as a child victim of trauma, and when I left they let me go without question or any guidance. I only got my bags checked to make sure J wasn’t stealing anything. I never heard from another case worker after that. I immediately got pregnant. The only person who tried to maintain contact was my therapist at the time. Fast forward 35 yrs and three adult children later, I can say it was a nightmare trying to survive on my own with no skills, no support, no guidance, no help. I came out of a foster system that just floated me through until I was legally on my own. I had the option to stay, but what 18 yr old would choose that, all circumstances considered? It was a flawed system then, it’s a shame it’s still having this as an issue to work out.

Don’t give up Tri!!! Was also in foster care from age 9. You’ve gotta get back into school..maybe online and also get into college. It’s one of the few ways to forge your way out✍️

I’m glad that this young man keeps continuing looking up and continuing to do the right thing because it’s so easy for this government to put young men especially young BM into the system and continue with this repetitive cycle that leads to nowhere. Stay blessed young man 🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️

This made me realize how blessed I am and to take advantage of what people are giving you because you never know who got it worse than you

I feel so sad for these kids!
The USA seriously need to improve every system.
The root cause of the problem is the current systems, cause the result is measured in process and procedure instead of the end result, which is why the USA is falling apart.
How is foster care successful, most of the foster kids end up on the streets and committing crimes?!
Please start measuring every system based on the end result instead of just the process and procedure!!!

I just had a newborn son a month ago and it’s pretty hard with him but I’ll never in life give my baby up. His mommy will always be here. Then I see things like this. I could never do that to my baby

I always dreamed of adopting a kid no matter their age. Just my house is to small if I had a bigger house. It’s so sad, heartbreaking to see this hear this poor thing so young and with out a home. Can you imagine the trauma from being passed around from place to place and the unknown of why your biological parents didn’t do right by him. As a mom this absolutely breaks my heart I hope someone adopts him. Can’t someone take him food or teach him how to cook. Wish I was closer to him I would.

One of the problems is many take these kids for the money, I know a person who lived in a trailor with 2 of her own. She got 3 foster kids at 800 a month for each, built her a big new house with a barn, and her two did without nothing. When the kids that where foster children turned 18 out they went, no money put back for them nothing but the clothes on their backs. This is an area that CPS needs to watch for when it comes to foster kids. This person can no longer use the country for foster care, but gets them through a Catholic foundation. I realize not all that take these children do this and I applaud them. I was lucky I was adopted.

They should have included his cashapp or ways to write letters to this young man.

COME ON MAN the biggest problem with these kids and people that help raise them is they dont want to put a lot of work into a child with issues for a paycheck, thats the biggest problem, very few will go long before asking for the child to go and another to take their place, i know i raised quite a few in my life time, and most of the kids say the same thing, they the foster parent just wants a paycheck, with that what child would have a chance
