That doesn't work for the one I am posting to right now. It was at about 490. I have posted up to 507 and it is still going. Each time before I post, I refresh the page to get the comment count, and it only goes up when I post. So I alone, while refreshing after ever comment, have taken an OP from below to above the 500 limit.

About the comments that have less than 500 but errors, it probably happens if YouTube flags some replies and got deleted, the comments still exists internally (they have to keep logs) but might not show to the users.
