In May of 2018, John Simon made his last of many appearances on “Theater Talk.” He appeared with "Theater Talk" co-hosts Susan Haskins and Donna Hanover, Matt Windman, theater critic for “amNew York,” and Justin Brown, Simon’s partner on the show “Corner Table.” Perhaps the late critic’s choice of Brown as his final media partner indicates he was evolving beyond LGBTQIA biases of the past. We like to think so.

Greatest critic of our time. John Simon.

Simon was a better literary critic--novels and stage--than he was a film critic. He was really a man of words. He did not have the best visual sense for cinema, although he was better than Kael in that regard. His stage review of Pacino's Richard III should be read by everyone. Can you buy this: At one time in the sixties you had Sarris, Simon, Vernon Young, Dwight Macdonald, Kauffmann and Kael reviewing films at the same time. There is not one single person today in that class. Talk about the decline of culture.

"... he was evolving beyond LGBTQIA biases of the past. We like to think so." Are you sure you have enough letters there to assure everyone of your non-discriminatory non-binary enlightenment? After all, theater must not be a freaky horror show of conservatism, we must be enlightened.
