Are Old Mercedes AMG Good Investments? W210 W211 W203 W209 W220 (Part 1: The Downsides)

In part one of this mini series, we take a look at the reason against owning an older AMG as an investment, like a W210 E55, W211 E55, W203 C32 and may more in the late 90's and early 2000's. Looking at the costs of ownership of my W210 E55 AMG we see what it really takes to be considered as a true investment.

Thanks for keeping it real. These are definitely not good investments but for us who own these old AMGs, it’s all about how these cars make us feel when we’re behind the wheel. I currently own and 02 C32 and 02 E55 AMG.

E55 w211 and c32 s203 we own, are only running in Summer. So the costs are not that high. No wintertire, no salt . We dont see them as Investment. They are Fun to have and drive. I like the Understatement. They where the cheapest in there HP-class. I think i lost at the S203 500Euro the last 5 years. Our E55 has become more value the last two years. I repair myself . That helps a lot. Next Car i wish, is an V12 or V8 biturbo.

Not Cheap to own, but the real thing from the early days, with V8, produced in lower production numbers, last year AMG delivered 145'000 units(!), 20 -25 years ago this was between 5000 - 10'000

An old AMG is definitely not the best option for investing when it comes to cars but certainly is better than buying a not so rare regular Mercedes or any other not so rare car for that matter. The good thing the old AMGs have is the rarity factor especially W210s and older generations but like you said their appreciation still won't be able to cover the annual costs as the value of these cars don't increase that fast. Nevertheless I convinced my girlfriend that it's a great investment (lmao) and way better than the W204 C 200 we previously had. Btw, the maintenance and insurance cost was pretty much the same for the W204 C 200 with 184 HP compared to the E55 which has double the power and sounds gorgeous and drives much better with better equipment. Also you're so lucky in the States that the fuel is so cheap and my gas bills here in Europe are way higher. Just spent 100 euros to fill up my car which equates to around $114 (70L fuel tank) but every single time I press on the accelerator pedal the grin is indescribable.

04 E55 and 05 E500 (non AMG) Like most watches, cars are not good investments . A few are though. Like pets, these cars can be frustratingly annoying and irritating, but loveable anyway.

I'm really confused about this video. I thought investment is when you buy something, wait a few years, and earn profit. And e55/e63 are definitely great investments. You didn't talk about investments you talked about, cost to own one
