You don't always want strong thread. You may want DaCot which is a dacrin thread wrapped in cotton. Also called dual core.
This is because synthetic thread can eventually cut like a saw blade through the surrounding fabric. With DaCot, the cotton layer abrades and the thread gets fuzzy and worn without damaging the cloth, so you can easily restitch it.
Commonly used in awnings and other heavy cloth.

A have made two ghillie suits. That taught me A LOT about sewing with braided fishing line as thread, thick but soft needles and using pliers, not hands.

I need a full hierarchy of ‘Levels of Repair’. So far Glueing > Sewing > Taping. What other levels are there?

do you ever use curved mattress needles, we use them for upholstery and i think they’re much better than straight needles

Get an S curve needle, Tandy Leather sells them for like 3 dollars, it's made to be very ergonomic, it can go through very thick and dense fabrics and leathers...

DO NOT USE TOO TOUGH OF A THREAD.. I.E NYLON THREAD ON LOOSE WEAVE WOOL.. IT WILL RIP OVER TIME..

100% cotton works if you get very high quality thread

I know what an 8 year old may know about sewing, and so it's one of the simplest repairs in the world.

Use cotton thread. Stop using plastic for no reason.

Must be nice owning clothes good enough to repair

I can't believe Van needed someone to tell him the fairly obvious basics of sewing. I worked it out bymyself when I was literally 5 ot 6 years old.
I *really* wanted to make my self army style belt pouches.
