The post coming out happened to mine too. Then Dad got another one where the post did the same thing soon after he installed it. So a local clock repair place fixed the original and that is now in there and working as it should.

After removing the bezel, the mechanism still won't release from the case. Something is keeping it from coming apart and I think it might be the brass contact extending from the back.
