Every Horror Game Be Like

The trick is to make the game look so dark to point where you don't even have to animate anything.

SOCIALS:
Vine ➤ lmao you thought

There are a lot of really, really good horror games out there (Resident Evil 4, PT demo, Outlast, Dead Space, etc.) but the indie horror game section on Steam is really something else.

My favorite type of horror games are the pitch black ones that make you solve puzzles for 4 hours just to find a key to one room

Ah, the good ol days of 10 trillion Slender Clones being created every day. So many YouTube careers started and destroyed.

I love how despite playing as a grown ass adult you run at the speed of a turtle and your stamina bar is a millimeter long and you somehow have the cheapest flashlight on the planet earth

FEAR is a really good example on how to do Horror in gaming.
It can be argued that it fits the FPS Genre rather than horror but even then you cannot deny that it had markings of good horror.

Horror is literally either complete dogshit, ironically good, or really amazing. Unfortunately, it’s usually the first one.

Before FNaF, most horror games just contain a player who would run around and find stuff while getting chased around by the killer. What made FNaF unique is that: It made the player completely defenceless and their only way of survival to was depended on how well they could save power and some light buttons it made the jumpscares more effective coz it's not SpooPY man attacking you at random; you're responsible for that jumpscares! I think FNaF did horror right (;

In my honest opinion games that aren't horror can be scarier then the actual horror games, because they can utilize the horror pretty well as long as people not realize that. For example DDLC (Doki Doki Literature Club) used horror pretty well, because it fooled the player into thinking it's a visual novel, only to turn into a nightmare full of scary imagery, 4th wall breaking and genuine terror and I think it worked out pretty well in its favor. Unfortunately now that it's known to be a scary game, I think the effect is gone because people are aware of its scariness. My theory is that horror in games can be achieved when the player is being put into a complete sense of disorientation, thinking its a completely different experience, only to be greeted by the horror elements kicking in. You can say it's "fear of the unknown". No? Am I wrong? Maybe, but these are my thoughts on the subject matter. Thank you for listening to my TED-talk.

My favourite horror games are the ones where you have your nose in a monitor looking at a bear for 2 hours

I swear by Visage, Penumbra, the outlast games and Dead Space as being some of the scarier games I’ve ever played.

One of those games where you spend 3 hours just walking around only for the ending to just be a jumpscare.

Makes me yearn for days of when we had games like Silent Hill.

This is why little nightmares 1 and 2 are the superior horror games. Instead of trying scare you right of the bat it slowly tries to make you uncomfortable with strange scenery. Also great video as always 👍

This is what I think about whenever I see that horror game popular right now with the stuffed animals

I think the problem with horror games is that they rely too much on jumpscares, and sometimes they’re scary the first time and after dying over and over again you just get used to the jumpscares.
